The Shuttleworth family estate was set up as a charitable Trust in 1944 by Dorothy Shuttleworth in memory of her son Richard, who died in a flying accident in 1940. Its aim was to reflect two of his interests of agricultural and aviation education. Shuttleworth College was opened in 1946 and the Collection first opened to the public in 1963. The latter has grown significantly including flying days and some of the Collection can often be seen passing over Meldreth on their way to and from Duxford on their major flying days. Alan Reed has for many years, as a volunteer, given presentations for the Trust.
