Villages
of
East London

"Villages of East London" was the title of a talk given by Peter Lawrence to a very full meeting room in late January. Peter gave a fascinating insight into how the villages or hamlets under the control of the Tower of London (hence "Tower Hamlets" borough) have changed since 1700. His slides illustrated how even the most inconspicuous gateway can lead to a beautiful terrace of Georgian cottages and why "Hole Town" in Barbados derives its name from the Lime Holes on the River Thames. Altogether an interesting evening and thank you to all those who came and helped raise funds for the "Friends".
